The Sixties: Cartoon History of a Decade

I just want freedom, free love, enlightenment
What was "The Sixties"? It was a time of protest, peace activism, fighting the power for freedoms we take for granted today: free speech, civil rights, free love, racial equality, academic freedom, fairness... This country used to be about pretending to be all for "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The Sixties cashed that checked and said, "Well, let's have it, Old People! You've been promising it since the time of the Puritans, and we have yet to see the country live up to that ideal."

I did it! I got my spaceship to freedom! (VW)
The trick was, and it took the nation decades to figure this out, we have a right to pursue not catch. There's no happiness, just an endless search for it. We're lied to be TV and the media as to what would make us happy, when they know that those things -- those carrots dangled before us -- would never lead to happiness or fulfillment even if we could catch them. You only have a right to pursue them. So buy this car, get that house, enter that relationship...THEN you'll be happy. Look this way, lose this weight, grow this height...THEN you'll be happy. Own this jewelry, have this experience, win these honors...THEN you'll be happy. It's a lie.

The Sixties: A Cartoon History of the Decade That Rocked the Nation and the World
I started it. You're welcome.
This collection of cartoons is a humorous look at the characters and events that shaped the tumultuous Sixties (1960s).

The continuing tension of the
  • American Cold War against the impoverished Russians,
  • the crescendo of American racism that led to the Civil Rights Movement,
  • the deepening gloom of the American War on Vietnam [and the secret American bombing of Buddhist Cambodia and Laos],
  • Berkeley had a lot to do with it
the Cultural Revolution in music and a questioning of morals,
  • the triumph when American men pretended to step onto the moon on live TV [which was fake footage by Hollywood director Stanley Kubrick, which is not to say we never went to the moon. The Nazis got there, so there's no reason our American Nazi NASA program did not
  • Woodstock and the Free Love Movement of the hippies]...
Dude, we were totally there in '69, I think.
they are all captured in the pages of this book.

So, too, are the larger-than-life figures who dominated this era:
  • young, handsome first Catholic President John F. Kennedy,
  • sociopath Lyndon B. Johnson,
  • Tricky Dick Nixon,
  • [Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
  • Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh,
  • self-immolating Buddhist monk U.S. War on Vietnam protester Thích Quảng Đức,
  • UC Berkeley and anti-war/pro-peace Student Free Speech Movement Founder Mario Savio,
  • genocidal Jewish madman and U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger],
  • Chicano/Chicana Movement: Viva La Raza!
  • Barry Goldwater,
  • George Wallace,
  • Nikita Khrushchev,
  • China's Mao Zedong,
  • Cuba's Fidel Castro,
  • Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh,
  • Russia's Leonid Brezhnev,
  • France's Charles DeGaulle,
  • plus a host of supporting characters.
Brother, we just hitchhiked a ride to the show, parked in the road, then walked to the farm.
Woodstock never happened, Man, just a pipe dream! - But Hendrix played! - Oh, yeah, huh?
.
I was tripping on CIA acid: LSD
Cartoonist (and author) Bill O'Neal was there during the decade to capture the spirit of the times, primarily for The Springfield Republican in Springfield, MA.

His satirical style was a fresh departure from the staid cartoons that dominated editorial pages up to then.

For younger readers, this collection of cartoons and commentary serves as a quick and entertaining introduction to the grooviest era that ever was.

For those who lived through the decade, who of course do not remember it (or are proving they were not there if they do claim to remember it) this book offers a telling reminder of the divisive issues of the time.

UCLA arrests with less police brutality

Should we grow up to support war and police?
Anyone expecting a bloodbath was relieved this morning that police, led by the LAPD, exercised restraint in abusing student demonstrators at the UCLA encampment on campus. Students for Palestine had explosives hurled at them the night before, and although this violence was brought to them from the outside, it was used as a sufficient pretext to declare the gathering unlawful. Everyone was threatened with arrest and worse. Hundreds of cops rolled in like stormtroopers dressed for the riot they were there to provoke. Students held their ground, but eventually, after 1:00 am, police began the violent take down of the camp and tents, kettling students and subjecting them to arrest. Most students managed to get away, but those who were arrested report police abuses and brutality. Will wealthy parents step forward and defend their children in the court system or simply take it on faith that the paramilitary force did no more than was absolutely necessary to take youngsters into custody? At least those students now know what many of us had to learn long ago -- police do not arrive to protect but to impose obedience using the threat and exercise of violence. So next time victims of police abuse report it, take it as very likely to have happened.

Protesters continue to be arrested on the UCLA campus
(KCAL News) May 2, 2024: Over 100 people have been arrested at UCLA's pro-Palestinian (anti-Zionist-Israel) encampment as protesters are accused of "resisting" officers for not immediately all commands without question or hesitation. The CHP says multiple students and faculty members were among those being forcibly detained -- with zip tie handcuffs cutting off circulation to their hands as a little torture trick police are allowed to practice at will, even when it leads to permanent damage to nerves because petty acts of vengeance are fun and make the job personally empowering -- as law enforcement officers raided the pro-Palestinian encampment on UCLA's West Los Angeles campus.

UCLA: Police moved in at 1:20 am (live)

Remember, students, police brutality is not limited to helpless minorities in the dark (LAPD).
We train for this, and it serves as a catharsis for our testosterone poisoning. We're immune.

LIVE: Students continue pro-Palestinian protests at UCLA | REUTERS
(Reuters) Started streaming 8:30 pm, May 1, 2024: University of California students in Los Angeles continue pro-Palestinian protests at UCLA, the area's premiere public university with the smartest students in the southern part of the state.
Mindful Awareness Research Center (UCLA)
WHAT DO THESE STUDENTS WANT?
It is very easy. The demands are clear: DIVEST from funding or doing business with criminal rogue state Israel. Boycott its money-making endeavors. Sanction Netanyahu and his fellow war criminals inside and outside Israel. It's basic BDS. It may not be possible for the UC system or UCLA in particular to stop Israel or the criminal elements in it known as the IDF and the Mossad.

Bruins are Athenians for a free society.
However, it is absolutely possible and necessary for UCLA to break ties with Israel and stop investing in it, no matter how much war profits it loses in the process. We pay tuition, and we do not want a single penny of it to go to the killing, maiming, and continued oppressing of Gaza, the West Bank, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestinian refugees languishing in "temporary" refugee camps all around the region, camps created and patrolled by Israel.

Police escalate UCLA campus protests.
Students are calling on the Biden administration, the Pentagon, and the entire American war machine (all its covert apparatuses secretly sending missiles behind everyone's back as Congress argues about how much money for the genocide to send to Israel and how many billions to give to Ukraine to fight our proxy-war against Russia) to pull out of supporting these crimes against humanity in the most well-documented genocide of all time. Why should students, why should any protester trust the mainstream corporate media, which constantly cheerleads any war it gets wind of, to report accurately? There is NO reason to talk to the media. There is every reason to keep the encampment closed until the University understands what is being demanded by the people going deep into debt to finance its operations.

UCLA peaceful protests: Police in riot gear yearning for violent show of force
(FOX 11 Los Angeles) Streamed live May 1, 2024: Police (LAPD, FBI, Sheriff's Dept, Culver City PD, Beverly Hills PD, Santa Monica PD, DPS campus security in a force of an estimated 600-800) of heavily armed and trained paramilitary troopers and undercover operatives to face off with 1,000 unarmed, peaceful students staging a sit in) at UCLA have used yesterday's attacks by Jewish outside agitators (probably LAPD agent provocateurs as their pretext) declared the pro-Palestinian encampment on campus is an unlawful gathering, and everyone has been ordered to leave.
  • Police have become violent and moved in to attack students, by attempting to startle them into stampeding, risking life and limb. But students held their ground. Now they are sitting down, chanting: "Peaceful protest! Peaceful protest! Peaceful protest!" Police have brought in at least ten buses to load up students like cattle and take them to a prison camp (or holding tank, county jail, or FEMA project).
There are thousands of onlookers, possible reinforcements for the encampment, from which they are being kept. Police are keeping them at bay. There is a massive law enforcement presence standing by at the campus, suggesting that a possible move to dismantle the encampment is imminent. More: foxla.com/news/ucla-pro-p...

Resist tyranny! Stop war! Free Palestine! Divest!
In a city of ten million, one thousand brave students, many of them teens, dare to stand up to police oppression to help the victims of Jewish-Zionist-Israel's war crimes and genocide.

Does the state not understand that? Do the administrators not understand? Do the average citizens of LA not understand? There is one group that does understand.

And that is the professors, who have come out to protect the students and if need be be brutalized and arrested with them. In solidarity with all that's good (peace, Palestine's rights, divestment from war profiteering, a need for a third party or a second one against our one-party-with-two-wings system), opposing all that's wrong (Israel, pro-IDF Jews and sympathizers, the US military funded by both corrupt Democrats and corrupt Republicans). It makes perfect sense if one listens to the words of Mario Savio or Rage Against the Machine lyrics.

"There's a time when the operation of The Machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart that you can't take part, you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears, and the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that, unless you're free, The Machine will be prevented from operating at all!"
- Mario Savio, Student Free Speech Movement Berkeley in the Sixties
Chants
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
From the sea to the river, Palestine will live forever!

UC, UC, you can't hide
We charge you with genocide!

Free, free Palestine
Fre, free, free Palestine!

Viva, viva Palestina
Viva, viva Palestina!

Hey hey, ho ho, the occupation has got to go
Hey hey, ho ho, Netanyahu has got to go!

Intifada, Intifada
Long live Intifada!

These are just a few of the social justice chants on the lips of children and young adults standing up against genocide, against the American war machine and the war profiteers that support it: the university, the UC Board of Regents, the bankers and funders of Israel, the CIA, the Pentagon, the NSA, NSC, DHS, FBI, Meta Google, Facebook, Apple, and other covert and infiltrated spying agencies.

Violent Jews at UCLA or hired agitators?

Get back to campus! We got our agents in there, started some fights, and we're shutting it down!

Witness recalls UCLA chaos, as pro-Israel thugs lobbed bombs and bear spray at UCLA students camped out in peaceful demonstration: An agent provocateur pretext for LAPD to crackdown?
Criminal Dictator Netanyahu must be removed.
(FOX 11 Los Angeles) May 1, 2024: A Black witness, Felicia, from the community saw the violent attacks on students erupt at UCLA overnight. She shares her experience with Good Day LA's Gigi Graciette and FOX 11 LA (a local station that is not Fox News). Subscribe to FOX 11 on YouTube: @foxla
  • Agent provocateur: When the LAPD or other police agency sends in false flag agents and operative (plain clothes policeman, turncoats trying to avoid charges, or spies) to do something that they can then blame on peaceful protesters to justify a violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators. It is an old trick often used in the 1960s' anti-war movement opposing the US War on Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
This isn't about race/culture but greed and war.
One could imagine wealthy Jews for Israel giving the police what they need, an excuse to shut down the pro-Palestine demonstration at UCLA, so close to massive Jewish enclaves in Los Angeles. This is humiliating for them to have Jews against Zionism, against genocide, against Israel. It cannot be allowed to stand with all of this media attention.

After all, this is foremost a war of propaganda so that Israel can commit mass murder and genocide in Gaza.

All we're saying is, Give war a chance!
It is also possible that donors and movers-and-shakers urged the LAPD and nearby FBI (whose offices are a few blocks away on Wilshire Blvd.) "to do something." And this is the old trick LAPD's spying arm came up with: Send in hired agent provocateurs to create a pretext (a justification) to shut it down. Students will blame other students and community members, and no one will notice that the police are behind it.

The exact same thing happened repeated during the Occupy Movement to subvert and sabotage peaceful protests, when someone noticed the police-protestors made the mistake of wearing the same police shoes they wear on duty. These agent provocateurs do not need to be on-duty policeman, though they often are. They wear masks, they're buff, and not hippies or hipsters or students at all. They often have short hair and are violent neo-Nazi types. Their job is to stir up mayhem.

I have illegal ways to control you, so you WILL
respect my authority. By law we cops can riot.
WARNING
: One of the most popular tactics and services they perform for police is to infiltrate the open-access demonstration and throw a water bottle, sometimes an empty one, at police, who then use this as a pretext, an excuse, to declare the whole thing an "unlawful assembly," making everyone in the area immediately subject to violent arrest. This might sound fair to people on the outside looking in until they find out that while the demonstrators are given orders to disperse, they are kettled in and blocked from doing so exactly so they can be identified, arrested, tagged, monitored, filmed, and prosecuted for any fictitious or real felony the police can dream up. A person will be in court for years trying to clear their name, while the police sit around, laugh, and collect payment for an illegal job well done.

[Staged] chaos at UCLA after fights break out during anti-Israel protests

(New York Post) May 1, 2024: Wild video shows the moment pro-genocide counter-protests on campus spiraled out of control overnight on April 30, 2024. Fights against students broke out and deadly firecracker bombs were thrown at the students' makeshift tent encampments.

It's just like the 1960s. We will not fund Israel!
The commotion broke out at UCLA in Westwood (West Los Angeles) after several outside agitators attempted to break down barricades protecting the students and their encampment on campus.

Explosives were then thrown toward a barrier set up by campus police, sending multiple people peaceful demonstrators for cover.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned all of the protesters (not just the violent pro-Israel counter-protestors) before announcing she was sending in the paramilitary LAPD, who were being called in to smash the demonstration in the name of "quelling the chaos."

Our Jewish Passover in Buddhist Nepal

Ah, the hippies and free love movement were renewed on Freak Street in old Kathmandu

Passover Seder in Kathmandu, Nepal, incorporated Buddhist and Jewish traditions
American JewBu (E. Sigalow)
(Forward) Buddhists are Jews? Wait a minute, Jews are Buddhists and they play bluegrass music? There is an old phenomenon from at least the 1960s in the U.S. (see The Jew in the Lotus) and the 1st century B.C.E. in Palestine (see Jesus Lived in India), when Jews born into Judaism (raised in a very secular way, often with a phobia about too orthodox and strict an interpretation of this Semitic school, given that many Middle Eastern and North African peoples are Semites, not just German Ashkenazi Jews and other Palestinians in the geopolitical but otherwise nonexistent "Middle" East) sought spirituality and like the Buddha and Jesus sought it in the mystic East.

Many Jews former beat poets love Zen Buddhism
The lure of India for young people on a spiritual quest is hard to underestimate. It is very old. Sure, Judaism has its own form of mysticism (just the same way regular Islam has mystical Sufism), but Kabbalah is creepy and more European-occultism than the magic and mystery of ancient India and its neighbor Esoteric Buddhist Tibet.
  • Jewish? Do I look Jewish? I'm All Religions
Ram Dass (formerly Harvard's Dr. Richard Alpert, Ph.D., who almost singlehandedly started the Sixties along with Howard Bloom, who claims he did singlehandedly start them), famously said, when asked if he was Jewish (because he dressed and wore his hair like his groovy Hindu "love guru" Neem Karoli Baba), "I'm only Jewish on my parents' side."
Prince Siddhartha (Gandhara)
Prince Siddhartha was born in Scythia (Saka) in ancient Gandhara, in the northwest frontier of proto-India; he traveled east on a quest for spiritual enlightenment.

Jesus Lived in India (Kersten)
King Jesus (humble Yeshua the Nazarene) was born either in pharaoh's Egypt or a small Podunk town known as Nazareth in Palestine (popularly sold to us as "Israel," which is located in North Africa, although this is obscured by ages of propaganda that forces the imagination to ignore that what is called "Israel" today is all on the African continent and in ancient times may have extended throughout Kush and Ethiopia, which at that time included Eritrea, in Kemet).

Foreskin's Lament (Shalom Auslander)
The Man will lie to us and separate us, pit Jew (Chosen) against Christian (Gentile) and play the ultimate victim with everyone against the self-isolating, exclusionary Jews. The work of Shalom Auslander is eye-opening in this regard. Eric Dubay (ericdubay.com and at bitchute.com) says the world has historically hated "the Jews" and not for nothing. They have been thrown out of country after country, leading to the saying "wandering Jew." This is blamed on the God of the Jews, who is punishing them for their sinfulness (lit. "missing the mark") and wickedness (evil) and most of all their kvetching (murmuring which really means bellyaching and endless complaining). The God just won't stand for it.

Our troubles did not begin in...
But will Buddhists be pitted against the Jews? If Jews behave the same way they have in other countries, sure. But just look at Thailand and other places with secret Jewish enclaves as they set up businesses, network, try to form monopolies that would be illegal elsewhere, keep others out of certain industries, and clean up all with government help and protection.

Every country wants a piece of the financial pie. And Jews, particularly the secular ones, are like the Jains in India, a tiny fraction of the population with disproportionate wealth and influence for their numbers.

Howard Bloom started the 60s?
Why? The religious rules they do not personally practice, but the very rules that made their community prosper, is the answer. Moses had a DMT vision (using Syrian Rue and seeing the burning bush) and said behave this way. Mahavira had a vision and said practice ahimsa, that is, abstain from doing any kind of harm (such as farming, soldiering, ranching, butchering, etc.), leaving only a few businesses to undertake, namely, banking and jewelry dealing. Remind you of any other small religious group?
Jews in St. Louis celebrate Passover Seder

(FOX 2 St. Louis) Passover Seder (a kind of Last Supper) is observed by Jews on the 15th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar. A local family invited FOX 2's crew into their home to show their [largely German Ashkenazi Jewish] beliefs and traditions.

The Jew in the Lotus: What does Judaism have to do with Buddhism?
The Jew in the Lotus (Rodger Kamenetz, 1995)
The Jew in the Lotus: A Poet's Re-Discovery of Jewish Identity in Buddhist India
is a famous book by Rodger Kamenetz published in 1995. It has a 4.5 out of 5 stars after 247 ratings.

While accompanying eight high-spirited Jewish delegates to Dharamsala, India, for a historic Buddhist–Jewish dialogue with the 14th Dalai Lama, poet Rodger Kamenetz comes to understand the convergence of Buddhist and Jewish thought.

Jesus (St. Issa) traveled to India?
Along the way he encounters Ram Dass (former Jewish Harvard professor Dr. Richard Alpert, who got fired because of LSD then went tripping around India as a hippie and became a cultural icon after he met and became devoted to Hindu love guru Neem Karoli Baba in India) and Hollywood actor Richard Gere, and dialogues with leading rabbis and Jewish thinkers, including Zalman Schacter, Yitz and Blue Greenberg, and a host of religious and disaffected Jews and JuBus (Jewish-Buddhists).

This amazing journey through Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism and Judaism leads Kamenetz to a renewed appreciation of his living Jewish roots. The Jew in the Lotus
